Pop Up Space
This project is the result of a collaboration between Bumble and Ice Breakers, aimed at reimagining how people initiate conversations across dating, friendship, and professional networking. At its core is a game that blends six different card-based prompts with a dice-driven mechanic, designed to reduce social friction and make first encounters feel more natural. The collaboration materializes in a physical edition of the game, launched during a limited pop-up store in New York City. In the long term, the experience continues within the app—making it a hybrid format that lives both on- and offline.
The spatial concept takes form as an open, modular environment—a casual, plaza-like setting that encourages spontaneous interaction while preserving individual agency. Designed as a hybrid and interactive space, it enhances conversations that unfold both in person and digitally. Participants move fluidly through the experience, choosing their own rhythm as they engage with the game’s six categories, activated by the roll of a die. Product integration is woven seamlessly into the space, with Ice Breakers gums available throughout and a non-alcoholic bar serving drinks inspired by the brand’s iconic flavors. Rooted in themes of choice, simultaneity, and soft structure, the project becomes a vehicle for light but meaningful exchanges. It bridges the gap between analog and digital connection, offering a low-stakes, high-vibe alternative to awkward beginnings—an atmosphere where talking to someone new becomes not a challenge, but a game.
